How to Make Your Marketing Dramatically More Effective

Posted September 18, 2014 by Joe Kashurba

In this post, I want to give you 3 quick tips that you can use to improve your marketing. These lessons apply to offline marketing as well as online marketing.

1) Always use an attention grabbing headline.

Regardless of whether you’re advertising in a newspaper, on a billboard, or on a website, you only have a few seconds to grab the attention of your potential customer.

The first step to grabbing your potential customer’s attention is to include a large headline that stands out, is easy to read, and says something that will capture their interest.

2) Talk about benefits instead of features.

One of the biggest marketing mistakes that businesses make is talking only about features when they should be talking about benefits.

So what’s the difference?

If I was selling computers, an example of a feature would be a 500 gigabyte solid state hard drive. Unless you were also in the computer industry, that probably wouldn’t mean anything to you.

It would be much more effective for me to talk about the benefit, which would be that you could store all of your music, photos, and videos on your computer without ever worrying about running out of space.

An advertisement with that statement of benefits would likely be 10x as effective as an advertisement that just talked about solid state hard drives and gigabytes.

3) Tell potential customers what to do next.

People are busy, and your advertisement is probably interrupting them, so you need to make it as quick and easy as possible for them to take the next step.

Every ad should tell potential customers exactly what to do next.

With a newspaper ad, this can be done with a very visible phone number or web address and a statement like “call now to request a quote” or “visit our website for more information.”
